Chewing gum on my sofa.

this one is short. somebody must have spit out their chewing gum in the cab i just took home, because it was on the seat of my jeans and now on the sofa. well, for a while it was on both, the jeans and the sofa. i managed to get it out of the sofa up to a certain degree, but it still smells like very well chewed strawberry chemical bubble gum. and the jeans are just covered with the sticky stuff. They are quite seriously soiled, my friends. How many pieces of gum are floating around the streets of New York? How many of them per square foot stick to the walkways? Why did somebody have to leave their chewing gum (it is pink) on the seat of the cab I chose to take home? At least it is not as bad as 1994 when I must have sat in a puddle of some unknown chemical, which then slowly but surely completely dissolved the back of my pants. Yes, yes it did. Fun...

haha lol
i love this blog!
funny

dissolving pants! now that sounds exciting. hope the chemicals didn't burn your arse?

in canberra there was a "Chewy Disposal Board" in a main square in town, a big piece of metal so people could stick those unwanted pesky wads of gum somewhere. revolting, but better than sitting on it.

if you put your jeans in the freezer for awhile you should be able to pick the gum off. when i was 14 a boy in my science class threw a wad of chewed up gum and it landed in my hair. of course i couldn't put my head in the freezer so the teacher was putting all these ice cubes on the strands of hair, in the end we just chopped them off...

Thank you Sophia, your blog is great too. : )

Shauny, my behind did not dissolve with the pants because of the speed at which the chemical attacked the fabric. It was not until a few days later that they just disintegrated, simply fell apart... it was very strange...

It sometimes feels as if all of new york were a chewing gum disposal. I like the tunnel between the 2/3 train and the F train on 14th street especially... because of the incline of the floor, some of the dark chewing gum spots are spread out over a meter or so...

I actually put my jeans in the freezer indeed... let's see how easy it will be to get rid of the pink and sticky stuff... : )

The chewing gum in hair story is a sad classic... at a certain age boys should probably be only allowed to play with rose petals... okay.. maybe not... but can you imagine?
: )

I was visiting NYC with my parents a few summers ago, and my mother said, "What are all these black circles on the sidewalk? It was a mystery to us. Eventually we figured it out.

I recall another chewing gum incident of Feb. 18th -- Guess the magic word was "chewing gum."
