Yes, the site was down all day today. My provider had this to say:
Hello,
Please do try to access your website again. Everything is working fine now. We had been doing urgent maintenance work on the servers to ensure maximum security to your account as well as the server where your account is hosted, due to the sudden surge in cyber terrorism. Please do open a new support request if you need any further assistance.
Thank you,
Regards,
Susy.
Can you imagine? What would the terrorists do to my site? Take it down for a day? Wipe it out? ...
I am actually glad that my provider cares and tries and makes sure I am in a secure spot here. The servers are in Texas, you know. You can see the location of the server (marked by a red circle) here. You think I am kidding. My servers really are in texas. Check it out.
Hmm... what else could I say here to look like a "person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept..."? Here it comes: Buy fantasy shares in this blog. it is FREE!!!. Yeah, that felt nice.
down for the day...

Read More
Thank you so much for the gift at Blogshared. ::SMILES::
JaguarPC (used to Be Aletia) is notorious for this kind of vague excuse. I used to have my website hosted through them. They were constantly down and never maintained their servers. Part of the plan I paid for at the time included back-ups, or so they said until they couldn't provide a backup for myself and many other customers. After losing me as a customer they still tried to bill me. Luckily I blocked them, others weren't so lucky. I would encourage you to only use them at your own risk because they are notorious for their shady actions.
Ducky, I just discovered the gift option today (it is new) and you were the very first "investor" in my blog. (you had bought one share when they were 8.80 I think.) Due to some market volatility the share price went down... so I wanted to at least make you own 10 shares of witoldriedel.com : )
(I wanted to gift others, but the system told me that I maxed out my activity for this 24 hours...) hmm...
Jason, yes, I know. Aletia was quite an adventure. JaguarPC is supposed to be better. And they are. The system appears to be quite reliable, most of the time. Hmm... I can not even think about moving this blog anywhere now. The blog alone has about 1300 entries and there are about 2000 comments here... WitoldRiedel.com is not a small site anymore... : D
hmm... I will need to talk to the folks at JaguarPC, maybe there are some ways to upgrade me to some sort of real server... ; )
Cool Witold, I just checked my little site (Shares of splog) and it's not worth much, I should look into that! BTW, I use ADDR.com for my hosting and they have been pretty stable, knock on wood!
>>sudden surge in cyber terrorism
Do you believe everything you´ve been told?
One of my sites had a hacker come in recently and go after all the index.html pages. Part of message instead of usual content was "Pirates of NetWork OwnZ you By w4r10ck..." Just had to restore page for fix, but web host had to plug server security holes in a hurry.
Hmm, so the threat is real.
My naïve hope is that nobody would want to attack a blog as silly as mine. I understand that the webspace surrounding blogs in general is drenched in real and serious experts. Some of them might be bored enough to just hack in here. Hmm. I somehow still believe in the good side of people. This is why I have this blog up here in the first place...
