on the overeager dentist front:

upon moving to california, my brand-new, ultra-progressive dentist (the children awaiting their drilling can play Sega DreamCast in the waiting room) decided that i needed to have all of my fillings replaced with new ones, as the old ones were pulling away from the tooth and allowing all sorts of nastiness in to do its damage...
I ended up having the (expensive) work done but experienced TMJ-type troubles (jaw-clenching due to resentment, maybe?) that made the entire thing very, very unpleasant. That man made me cry and made a lot of money.
But my goodness, you should see my blindingly white open-mouthed smile! No mercury for me, my dear!

I got 1 wisdom tooth out in highschool because it was in my eye socket (I had a cyst in my sinuses which exploded and rocketed my tooth and also made a nice drainage hole from my sinuses directly into my mouth...yumm) I got my other 3 wisdom teeth out this past December. It could have been worse I suppose. Now I have a happy mouth. ::BIG GRIN::

all of my wisdom teeth are out, and it was relatively painless. but, when my sister got hers pulled, they found she had extra wisdom teeth! i'm not quite sure how this happened, but she had 4 normal wisdom teeth and i guess 2 "extra" ones. this all sounds somewhat off kilter to me, but i guess it just means my sister is extra smart.

i got an unnecessary root canal on my front tooth last year.
not only was it not needed--it was done wrong...he missed the root and now i just have consta-pain tooth.

at the time i was a stylist in a photo studio...the dentist gave me a 'scrip for codeine which i told him i was alergic to...but he called in the scrip to my father who didn't know my allergy and when my father gave me drugs that my dentsist 'scribed i took them...that was stupid.

for 8 hours at the studio i was vomiting into trash cans.

i've had 4 root canals (not including the unnecessary one) by a butcher dentish in boulder, co. when i lived in LA one broke while my boyfriend and I were eating thai food.

so i too went to a new age LA dentish (who was italian and super cool) and she told me that the idiot dentist in boulder was supposed to cap my root canals and he never did.

now i have an entire mouth that needs rebuilding because of the domino effect.

I'm proud to say I'm in my late 30's, have all my wisdom teeth and have only had one filling (I think you guys call them 'root canals').

One dentist said I need the wisdom's out however getting a second opinion is good, as he said my wisdoms are chugging along just fine.

Dentists love doing 'something' even though it doesn't need doing. $$$$!

my wisdom teeth arrived with no fuss, fanfare or pain. then they bullied my other teeth and made them all crooked. so now i've got braces. again. at 27. they suck. wisdom teeth should be renamed evil teeth. it'd be a more accurate name.

They're good teeth. (On Shauny's) Um, that's all.

wow, you actually gave me an opening to talk about this... I DON'T HAVE WISDOM TEETH AND NEVER DID. simply didn't come with them in my mouth! x rays prove it. they are, as you may know, evolutionary "extras" anyway! so i'm particularly evolved! :)

Amber: you're so lucky! My wisdom teeth have been extracted for a few years now -- they were making my teeth crooked. I was allergic to the novocaine and threw up for several hours afterward (I still have strange stains on my copy of Dracula). I took some Gravol and dozed for 2 days. Now my dentist tells me I'm a tooth grinder...

I have all my teeth and white fillings -- dental hygenists exclaim when they first see them. Whoa! You have a lot of teeth!

I was blessed with the right size jaw for the teeth as well, so they are straight and even and all there.

i'm 27 and still have all of my wisdom teeth. they're not quite straight, but they're not affecting the other teeth. my dentist told me that i should probably have them removed, but they're not really affecting my other teeth, and i don't have insurance that would cover it, so it will have to wait for now. actually, i've been very lucky with my teeth. they're naturally straight, and i've only ever had one root canal, which wasn't nearly as bad as the pain leading up to it.

but what about the tooth pics, people? are they not the cutest pics you've ever seen? and i am not just saying this because i am drugged to the gills.

i now have the REAL four aggressive teeth at home in a jar, and they are nowhere near as cute as witold's drawing of them :)

when i was 18 my wisdom teeth grew in. early into the process, while moving my lower jaw around the jaw joint cracked (same as a knuckle)and then the pressure went down. i cracked my jaw regularly all during the process and they came in pretty straight. i also gargled with salt water to control the constant infection of the gum. now i'm 34 and last year my jaw cracked unexpectedly while eating an apple. this hadn't happened in 15 years! now recently my jaw has been cracking again intentionally. i was puzzled and now i'm pretty sure i have two more wisdom teeth coming in on the bottom and they feel VERY big under the gum!!!

It's been two weeks since I had all my four wisdom teeth removed and yet I find it difficult to bite and I have a yellow drainage in three of my holes. My Dentist said it's not infected & that it's perfectly normal. I asked other people that have had this procedure done and not one said they had this. Not to mention the bad taste and the odor it creates in my mouth...Yuk! If anyone knows if this is normal tell me because my dentist is of short words... Help

I had 6 wisdom teeth, when I was a junior in high school. I have scars on the sides of my jaw, but everything is now okay. just to let people know. When they have wisdom teeth pulled, and it doesn't heal right after a month or two, it is gross but make sure they DON'T leave any parts of wisdom tooth in! Two months after my surgury, I noticed I wasn't healing right. I thought I had something in the back, like a chip, or something, found out later that it was part of my wisdom tooth they forgot. I didn't know I had 6 W T, until I was about to have surgury. Does anyone else have 6? Like me? It has been 5 years, and I have since moved. I don't remember my doctor to get X-rays.
