pen test...

the pen I recently received was a fine Mont Blanc from 1956, and I just let it draw whatever it wanted to draw, on the subway… the lines were short, much shorter than the ones I was used to, and there were many, the shapes became clear slowly, and there he was, an angry little boy, not really looking like a boy at all, the little spirit that might have been trapped in the old mont blanc pen that arrived here from hamburg. ; )
The pen had never been used before, never been “inked”, it works much better now… we have much calmer encounters…
but it still produces some of these strange drawings, angry little characters…
hmm…
use your pens, use them often…
(Don’t let them grow bitter over time…)

It's a good thing the pen came to you when it did. Any longer idleness and it might have swallowed you whole.

well, I am expecting the delivery of another pen from the same source... and this one will be from 1936, also never inked. The ink window is red...
I will need to wear some gloves when drawing, I guess...

bloody brilliant :) can't wait to see what happens with the 1936 pen :)

what's that on his sweater?

it looks like he'd perhaps been wearing a toy police badge and ripped it off in a fit of rage, leaving a torn hole in the sweater his rickety old grandma knit for him.

hmm... interesting idea... let's see where the badge might be... (is it hidden in the 1936 pen?)
hmm...

Witold,

I have never tried drawing with a "nice pen." I've always just used the really cheap Pilot's or Uni-ball's that I find in the grocery store. I LOVE the look of your inked drawings and was hoping you could suggest a good "nice pen" for me to start out with.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Stephan!,
your drawings are most amazing!, you are the living proof that true art comes through regardless what tools are used to make it.
I will look for a pen for you.
Happy New Year to you too!
yey...

I'm not sure I think the little boy looks angry - I think maybe he's just tired from being out in the winter weather rough-housing with friends and dogs. Maybe the sweater got caught on the metal edge of a fence when he tried to go over or through the fence when he spied a friendly looking (but lonely) dog. Or some such.

You might be right... maybe he is indeed just tired...
the pen used to draw him had been asleep for almost 50 years...
: )
