My index fingers are currently pointing at two websites that are made by the same people and really look it. I am not saying that any of this is bad work (Some is actually quite excellent, it really is). It is just making me smile. (A good smile...)
Take a look at workinprogress (good, eh?) and now take a look at selfservicemagazine... (clearly related, aren't they?)
While we're at link jumping, take a look at the following site:ade hauser lacour kommunikationsgestaltung gmbh... (The toy on the homepage is cute, isn't it?) (Make sure you turn off any Pop-Up killers, as this site is just in love with Pop-Ups.) (Why, oh why?)(Why?)(pop)(up)(pop)
("alle fenster schliessen" means "close all windows with one mighty click")
Links discovered at Vier5... who knew?
if somebody created java script which enables pop-up windows management, someone have to use it. Almost like Russian writer Chechov said: “If there is a gun in a first scene of the play, it will shoot at last”
Posted by: andrius on August 10, 2003 05:49 AMi looked in the workinprogress section for the virgin corporate redesign, and it's ugly. if you happen to go to art school in germany and your typography prof really loves the 70s, than this is how your work in the first semester of art school looks like, but you quickly forget it in the 2nd semester, because it's so horrible outdated.
Posted by: Joergen on August 10, 2003 04:55 PMafter looking even more at the sites, this is just way too much 70s typography. and to see the font avant garde in one line is ok, but every little bit more of it is just too much. and by the way, they had beautyful magazines (i.e. twen) in the 70s, but those two urls are not cutting it.
Posted by: Joergen on August 10, 2003 05:01 PMAndrius, your comment made me smile. It is so true, so true...
: )
Jörgen, you are right, you are right...
this is all pure hipster press...
My original post actually ended with the following link to the Hipster Quiz...
You are right, we should not believe the hype.
Willy Fleckhaus and Heinz Edelmann, as well as Milton Glaser and Saymour Chwast are superheroes. The guys here are just dressing up in spandex...
; )
no, do not believe the hype. i'm not a hipster (i got only a score of 47%), and never will be, and i'm proud of it. hipsters are just skimming the surface, and never look what's beneath. they believe and do whatever they are told. like those two websites: plain abuse of Tom Carnase and Herb Lubalin's 1970 creation. i wonder if you can revoke the type-design license of those guys for type-misuse?
and yes witold, you're absolutely, perfectly right: fleckhaus and edelmann are heros. and when i look at my every day design creations, it makes me cry how much typography i don't use. (schluchz)
Posted by: Joergen on August 10, 2003 10:06 PMDear Witold,
Link Correction:
Vier5 has the following URL: Vier5.de
(the current link is more like history/archive)
