Herbert Muschamp plays with numbers.

Ground Zero: 6 New Drawing Boards is the title of today’s comment by Herbert Muschamp, the Architectual critic of the New York Times. And what an enjoyable article it is. Muschamp has a very strong opinion about the six new candidates chosen by the Lower Manhattan Develoopment Corporation for the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site. Listening to the city was one thing, now the city will be shown six proposals that will come from six established Architectual firms. The results should be very interesting. The Firms chosen are: (1) Greg Lynn, Ben van Berkel of UN STUDIO and Reiser Umemoto, (2) Lord Foster and Partners, (3) Richard Meier, Peter Eisenman, Charles Gwathmey and Steven Holl, (4) Frederic Schwartz and Rafael Viñoly, (5) SOM (Their new site is a rollercoaster experience and a little scary) and Daniel Libeskind (the navigation of his site fills me with fear as well.)

Hmm, what was supposed to be one of three posts about architectual development in New York City today, just gave me a headache.

The other day, I was wondering how Mahattan used to be, when they first built the subway, wouldn't it make more sense to just have subways run straight up and down the middle of mahattan through a small area of the park and let that be the only subway tracks ? instead of many many on each side of the island ?
instead of having to get cross-town connections, one can just walk the equal distances....
all right I sound very ignorant right now not to mention idiotic.
: )

hmm.... I actually like the subway system. What I would really like to see though would be more watertaxis. There should be waterbusses on both rivers and also in the bay. It could be like venice. And then there could be a canal on Canal street.
I am not sure there should be a subway in the park. Really not sure.
